AI Policy

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy
Mimbar Yustitia: Jurnal Hukum dan Hak Asasi Manusia

1. General Principle

Mimbar Yustitia: Jurnal Hukum dan Hak Asasi Manusia is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity, originality, and transparency in all published works. This policy governs the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted tools in the preparation of manuscripts submitted to the journal.

2. Permitted Use of AI Tools

Authors may use AI-assisted tools (such as grammar checkers, paraphrasing tools, and language editing software) solely for the purpose of improving the clarity, readability, and linguistic quality of their manuscripts. Such use is permitted provided that:

  • The intellectual content, argumentation, analysis, and conclusions are entirely the authors’ own original work;
  • The use of AI tools is disclosed transparently in the manuscript.

3. Prohibited Use of AI Tools

The following uses of AI are strictly prohibited:

  • Using AI to generate the substantive content, arguments, legal analysis, or conclusions of the manuscript;
  • Listing an AI tool (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, or similar) as an author or co-author of a manuscript. AI tools have no legal standing, cannot be held accountable, and therefore cannot fulfill the responsibilities of authorship as defined by COPE guidelines;
  • Using AI to fabricate, falsify, or manipulate research data, citations, or references.

4. Disclosure Requirement

Authors who have used AI-assisted tools for language editing or proofreading must include a brief disclosure statement in their manuscript, placed after the Acknowledgments section (or at the end of the manuscript if no Acknowledgments section exists), using the following format:

“The authors used [name of AI tool] for the purpose of [specific use, e.g., grammar checking and language editing]. The authors reviewed and verified all content and take full responsibility for the integrity of the submitted work.”

5. Responsibilities of Authors

Authors bear full and sole responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of all submitted content. The use of AI tools does not diminish or transfer this responsibility in any way.

6. Peer Review

Reviewers and editors of Mimbar Yustitia are likewise prohibited from using AI tools to generate, fabricate, or substantially draft their review reports. Reviewers may use AI tools only for minor language assistance, provided that the review reflects their own independent scholarly judgment.

7. Detection and Enforcement

Mimbar Yustitia uses Turnitin and other tools to screen manuscripts for similarity and potential AI-generated content. Manuscripts found to violate this policy will be rejected without review, and cases of suspected misconduct will be handled in accordance with the journal’s Publication Ethics policy and COPE guidelines.

8. Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed and updated periodically to reflect developments in AI technology and evolving best practices in academic publishing.

This policy is effective as of December 2024 and applies to all manuscripts submitted from that date onward.
