Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Cooperative Learning model of the Group Investigation type in improving students' understanding of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) subjects at SD Negeri Madulegi II Sukodadi Lamongan. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that the application of the Group Investigation model is effective in increasing students’ activeness, collaboration, and comprehension of PAI material. During the learning process, students are actively involved from the topic planning stage, information gathering, group discussion, to the presentation of learning outcomes. The teacher acts as a facilitator who guides students through investigation and reflection. The classroom atmosphere becomes more dynamic, communicative, and student-centered. This model is also in line with Islamic values such as deliberation and mutual cooperation. Therefore, the application of the Group Investigation model has proven effective in improving the quality of PAI learning and in fostering positive character development in students. It is recommended that this model be continuously implemented in elementary school learning processes
