ANALYSIS OF THE USE OF DICTION IN REPORTING SOCIAL ISSUES IN KOMPAS.COM MARCH 2025 EDITION
Abstract
This study analyzes the use of diction in reporting social issues on Kompas.com. Appropriate diction is important to convey information accurately and effectively. This study examines ten categories of diction in three news articles as case studies. The results of this study are expected to provide new insights into applied linguistics studies and become a practical reference for journalists in choosing the right and effective words in reporting social issues in the digital era. This study identifies and classifies ten types of diction, analyzes the frequency and dominance of the use of diction types, reveals Kompas.com's linguistic patterns and strategies in framing social issues, and examines the effectiveness of diction selection in bridging the complexity of social issues with public understanding.
