Analisis Semantik Leksikal pada Cerpen Koin Hitam dan Tukang Ramal Karya Agus Noor

Abstract

This research focuses on utilizing the literal meaning of each chosen word to create atmosphere, convey complex emotional messages, and explore symbolic elements.  Koin Hitam and Tukang Ramal are examples of how Agus Noor utilizes lexical meaning to enrich the narrative and develop the theme of the story. This research also aims to investigate how lexical semantics enriches readers' understanding and engagement with these literary works, especially in the context of short stories known for their dense storytelling and symbolism. A descriptive qualitative method was used, focusing on the semantic meaning of words using structural and semiotic methods. The research data includes texts, sentences, paragraphs, or quotations related to lexical meanings in short stories, data collection techniques using reading and note-taking techniques, with data validity guaranteed through triangulation. Descriptive analysis methodology involves data reduction to present a clear and easy-to-understand summary.  Data presentation involved explanation, elaboration, and classification according to key issues, especially highlighting different types of meaning for systematic organization. Inference drawing involves verifying the congruence of the research findings with the implied meanings, resulting in a brief summary of the study content. From the analysis, nine specific lexical items were identified such as "coin," "black," "lying down," and "throw away" in Koin Hitam, as well as "pasar malam," "gulali," "tukang ramal," "love," and "hit-and-run" in Tukang Ramal. These words carry literal and symbolic meanings that enrich the narrative and reveal the characters' emotional baggage. The signs identified relate to cultural contexts and people's daily lives, demonstrating their role as communication tools to understand various aspects of daily life.
