Abstract

The rapid development of digital media has encouraged parents to engage in Sharenting, which involves sharing photos, videos, and information about their children on social media platforms. This practice raises significant concerns regarding children's right to privacy from an early age. This study aims to explore the underlying motives of parents engaging in Sharenting and its psychological impacts on the loss of early childhood privacy at TK Al-Hikmah Jugo, Sekaran, Lamongan. Methodologically, this study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through comprehensive observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation involving 54 informants, consisting of 26 children, 26 parents/guardians, 1 school principal, and 1 classroom teacher selected via purposive sampling. The gathered data were analyzed through reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicated that the primary motive behind parental Sharenting is a sense of pride in their children's development, alongside documentation purposes, family communication, keeping up with trends, and sharing experiences. WhatsApp Status emerged as the most frequently used platform. Crucially, the study reveals a major novelty regarding parental awareness: most parents do not ask for their child's consent before posting, which leads to immediate psychological impacts on the children, including feelings of pleasure, embarrassment, refusal when photographed, and a sense of being forced into documentation. In conclusion, this study underlines that parental digital literacy must be significantly enhanced to ensure that everyday Sharenting practices inherently respect and safeguard the child's fundamental right to privacy.
