Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the implementation of an open problem approach (Open-Ended) by using a filter of Erastosthenes in improving the understanding of the concept of learning primes in forth graders  of the first state elementary school of Mejuwet Sumberrejo Bojonegoro in the Academic Year of 2013/2014. Judging from (1) The level of learning students mastery. (2) The level of student activity. (3) The level of teacher activity (4) The level of student responses. The research was conducted at the first state elementary school of Mejuwet Sumberrejo Bojonegoro with the research subjects were 19 students of class IV SDN Mejuwet. The method used in the study was observational, questionnaire, and test. Based on the data analysis obtained the following conclusion: (1) The percentage of students in classical learning completeness of 88.9%. This suggested that in a class there was ≥85% complete student learn. (2) the livelines of students seen from the student activity during the learning takes place can be considered good. (3) Activities of teachers during the learning takes place was seen through teacher observation sheet activities can also be categorized as good. (4) The response of students to the adoption of an open approach to the problem (Open-Ended) by using a sieve Erastosthenes by 86.8% responded positively. This study concluded that the adoption of an open problem approach (Open-Ended) by using a filter Erastosthenes effectively applied to increase the understanding of learning the concept of prime numbers in the fourth grade of the first state elementary school of Mejuwet  Sumberrejo Bojonegoro in the Academic Year of 2013/2014.
