Abstract

Abstract

This qualitative, descriptive case study aimed to identify and map the Arabic listening proficiency levels of students at Al-I'tisham Islamic Institute in Batam, utilizing the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Based on in-depth interviews with the institute's teachers, the findings reveal that most students demonstrate listening competency ranging from level A1 (Breakthrough/Beginner) to B1 (Threshold/Intermediate), indicating an ability to understand common phrases and grasp the main points of clear, standard input regarding familiar daily and professional matters. The discussion highlights the urgent need to integrate CEFR descriptors into the institute's curriculum and material design to establish measurable and globally standardized criteria, leading the research to recommend adapting Arabic language programs for a more systematic and CEFR-aligned development of listening skills, thereby enhancing overall graduate competency
