Abstract

Arabic language learning in Indonesia still faces various challenges, particularly in mastering speaking skills (maharah al-kalam). Many students understand grammar theory but struggle to apply it in oral communication due to a limited language environment and lack of interactive learning media. This study aims to analyze the use of the Duolingo application as an alternative solution to address learning problems and improve Arabic speaking skills. The research method employed is descriptive qualitative, with data derived from the researcher's direct experience using the Duolingo application over a four-week period. Data were collected through participant observation, field notes, and documentation of exercise results. The findings indicate that the use of Duolingo contributes positively to the enhancement of speaking abilities, especially in aspects of pronunciation, fluency, and learning motivation. The speech recognition feature and gamification system proved effective in increasing student engagement and learning independence. Despite limitations in conversational context and dialect variation, Duolingo can serve as a supplementary learning tool that supports a communicative approach and technology-based learning in Arabic instruction in Indonesia
