Abstract

The accuracy of the response given students and types of errors students in solving problems is rarely traceable. The accuracy of student learning outcomes coud be reflected in the response given students in solving problems. Based on the responses given such students, could also be seen as a kind of mistakes made. One way to track the response and the type of error that made the students' mathematical problem was using the SOLO Taxonomy (The Structure of the Observed Learning Outcome). SOLO taxonomy played in determining the quality of students' response to the problems encountered. This research included studies. The study was aimed to describe the ability of students to solve problems by using the SOLO taxonomy analysis. Subjects used were six students of class XI Science High School Dr. Musta'in Romly Payaman Solokuro Lamongan in the academic year of 2012/2013, in which students in the class were grouped into three groups, namely the upper group, the middle group, and a lower group, each group was taken two students. Then all six students were given four questions, which of these questions could determine the quality of student responses. Based on the results and discussion, it could be concluded that (1) two groups on the subject of which was classified as level DF IN Relational and Extended Abstract classified level. (2) two subjects of the middle group that was classified as level AU Unistruktural and Nu classified Multistruktural level. (3) While the two subjects of the group under which the AL and WNM classified Multistruktural level.
