Abstract

Smallholder cocoa farming system with multicultural / multicultural system conducted in Gunungkidul Regency is not known how far can play a role in increasing farmer's income. This research was conducted in Gunungkidul Regency, D.I.Yogyakarta in July-September 2016. Primary data used were obtained from interviews of cocoa farmers, and secondary data were obtained from relevant agencies that could be justified for the truth. This study aims to assess cocoa farming practices and to identify physical and non-physical factors related to cocoa farming, to know the management and to know how much income is gained compared to the total income of the family.

This research is a quantitative descriptive research involving 253 respondents. The observation result shows that the parameter of physical condition is less suitable with the requirement of cacao plant growth is on the soil type, which is more suitable for crops of regosol soil. Non-physical condition parameters related to cocoa farming are: Capital, Manpower, Transportation, Marketing, Credit Facility, and Technology. The majority of farmers obtain seeds from government assistance, fertilization is generally done once a year, harvest frequency 1-2 times each month, the production of smoking 0.5 kg / year.
